Giovanni age 7 studied for 5 years the violin under the guidance of Raffaello Pilato. Age 14 he took up the guitar. He carried on the study of the guitar under the guidance of Fabio Sanfilippo. He studied history of art for several years and worked for the Vatican Museums in Rome whilst busy with several music projects, jam sessions and gigs of any sort. 

Giovanni moved to London in 2008 to pursue a music career as jazz guitarist. In 2016 he graduated at Guildhall School of Music & Drama  with guitarist John Parricelli, Drummer Trevor Tomkins and composer Scott Stromann.  He also benefited from masterclasses and courses led by world-class musicians including Enrico Pieranuzi, John Abercrombie, Howard Alden, Marc Copland, Malcom Edmonstone, Dave Friesen, Tony Malaby, Marcus Miller, Liam Noble, Eddie Prevost, Phil Robson, Martin Speake, Keith Tippet.

Giovanni studied Renaissance and Baroque music a with David Miller who taught him Renaissance Lute and Theorbo and Continuo playing.

Deeply interested in music research and composition Giovanni studied Ethiopian music, Ottoman music and classical Mandolin.

As jazz musician, Giovanni covers everything from early jazz to contemporary and world jazz with groups including The Dalston Gypsy Jazz Trio, M.oo.K Ensemble, The Top Shelf Band, New Score Trio, Terri Quaye trio, Ansuman Biswas and Antonio Raspanti.

As composer he has written music for Mainly Duo, composed and produced the record “Music of Our Kind” and “New Score”, co-produced “The Future Ancients” and “LeBop” among other.
